Appeals court weighs life sentences for juveniles

ATLANTA - The U.S. Supreme Court has already ruled that juveniles cannot be sentenced to death, and that they also cannot be sentenced to life in prison without parole for rape and other non-homicide offenses. But what about those juveniles who were convicted of murder?

THE leader of Alabama's homicide victims' support group thinks the Birmingham judge who freed ''Honeymoon Killer'' Gabe Watson should step down after showing open contempt for prosecutors and the grand jury that indicted Watson for murder.

ATMORE, Ala. (AP) - A man condemned for the 1987 killing of his daughter's 16-year-old boyfriend in rural south Alabama has been executed by lethal injection.

Phillip Hallford was pronounced dead at 6:26 p.m. Central Standard Time on Thursday at Holman Prison. When asked if he had any final words, he said, "No."

"The offical unveiling of the Judge Jerry M. White Award for the Southeastern Regional
for Judicial Excellence" was held at the Houston County Court House.

There were over 70 attorneys, chiefs of police, prosecutors, and sheriffs in attendance. The Attorney General's Office officiated.
